I've recently revisited the work of Chicago based artist, Nick Cave. He makes these beautiful sound suits out of various found materials, each one being very unique and making a different sound when you dance in them. I'm really looking forward to these ending their exhibition tour at UCLA's Fowler Museum in 2010. To learn more and see other pieces of the collection, along with a short video of Cave's performances within the suits look here.
I think I should finally start to put some of my work up here. It will slowly leak into the blog after i get around to scanning certain things, so be patient. For now, here is a drawing and painting piece I did for JT's class. We were asked to combine a person that we admired, our favorite animal, and a piece of artwork that we enjoyed. Mine? Einstein, a fox, and the album artwork for Radiohead's Kid A. I'll get around to putting up actual design work in the near future.
I was up all night with a really high fever, body aches, and a sore throat. Not fun. I eventually had to go to the hospital at about 8:30 eventually being diagnosed with a case of strep throat, but after two penicillin shots in the ass, lots of tylenol, and a perscription for vicoden, I'm feeling much better. It looks like I might live to see another day.
One worry though: Grizzly bear at the Wiltern tomorrow night.....I absolutely can't miss it. Doc said it would take about 3 days to recover, but I'm going to stupidly push myself. So to anybody attending the show, I'll be the girl in the bubble and surgical mask.
Here are some beautiful illustrations from my very talented friend J.T. Steiny. They showcase everything, from the very mundane to the wonderfully weird. See more of his work here or there.
Wishing my Father a happy 40th birthday today. I'd call him an old man, but it ain't true. It has made me evaluate my own situation, thinking, "well, i could have a one year old right now..." Strange to think about, but having young parents has come with the bonus of openness and of mutual senses of humor.
I'm letting out a sigh of relief as I finish setting this thing up. I spent far too much time on the header, only to abandon all design principles and just slap some shit up there, so I'll try not to get too attached. What is nice though, is to have one thing to check off of the list of my various undertakings and resolutions.
I am a graphic design student at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. Thus, I enjoy staring at my computer for hours and having no life. I laugh at my own jokes.
